A good prequel..

When Jennet Carter decides to hack into her father's sim-game (Feyland) she has no idea that she would actually be opening a gateway to the Realm of Faerie. Moving through each level, encountering its levels and completing its quests becomes ever more treacherous as the final battle approaches. As Jennet faces off against the Dark Queen of Fearie, she begins to realize that there may be more at stake than the outcome of a game.
The author, Anthea Sharp, does an extraordinary job making high-tech gaming and magic collide as the story begins to unfold. The characters are well written and the relationship, between Jennet and her father, is believable.
I enjoyed this brief introduction and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

a great prequel to what could become an epic fantasy

This is a wonderfully short but powerful prequel to a fantasy series that shows great promise. In its pages we find a huge amount of background knowledge to fill the story out and to also pave the way for the further adventures within the land of the Fae. We see the cruelty that the Fae can unleash on humanity on a whim and we are left reeling when the realisation hits that they are so much more powerful than anyone could have foreseen. I wait with baited breath to see what comes next in the story begun by an unsuspecting teenager and her foray into a virtual reality 'game' and ended with her duel against the Fae Queen.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone that loves fantasy

Great Prequel

I loved this prequel to the Feyland series, as it reminded me of those girl's adventure stories into fae borderlands that I read as a pre-teen, but with an upgrade for modern girls. Ms. Sharp's writing is crisp and moves the story along and her descriptions are such that I could clearly see and smell the rich colors and odors of the faerie realm. This first dip into Jen's adventures is a delicious intro to what promises to be a complex series. Looking forward to purchases the rest.
