Frigid, by J. Lynn

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have. But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

From Publishers Weekly
Lynn (Wait for You), a pseudonym for paranormal romance author Jennifer L. Armentrout, delivers an earthy and unsurprising new adult contemporary about best friends secretly in love with each other. College senior Sydney Bell has adored Kyler Quinn since they were little kids, but she&'s certain that man-whore playboy Kyler could never feel the same way about her: We went together like a lion and a gimpy gazelle. Little does she know that Kyler shares her feelings. A plan for a pre-Christmas gathering of college friends at Kyler&'s mom&'s ski house in the mountains becomes a provocative situation when Kyler and Sydney wind up stranded alone at the house in the middle of a week-long blizzard. To make things worse, someone begins attacking them and sabotaging the house. Sydney and Kyler are one-dimensional characters, and the predictable plot offers few surprises, but this story should satisfy readers who crave steamy lust with a happy ending. (Nov.)

Review
A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling book!
"Frigid has everything I want a book-page turning romance, loveable characters, and more laugh out loud moments than I can count. My favorite J. Lynn book to date." - NYTimes Bestselling author Cora Carmack

"J. Lynn is a worthy addition to the new adult genre. Frigid is a welcome departure from some of the more well-trod NA tropes. Sydney and Kyler are simply well developed, realistic characters who just happened to have very hot sex..." RT Book Review 4 1/2 Stars TOP PICK

"Scalding hot! Deep with emotion and richly-layered characters - Frigid is just another reason J Lynn is at the top of my auto-buy list." -- NYTimes Bestselling author Sophie Jordan

Frigid left me cold (and so disappointed)
By Book Worm
As like alot of people out there I love what JLA writes, but that does not mean I will love everything she writes just because she wrote it, it still has to be an entertaining read. And Frigid simply is not, and to be honest it did not even feel like a JLA book. Let me tell you why. JLA writes amazing chemistry between characters, the chemistry between Syd and Kyler is, to be honest, blah. I was waiting for it to wrap around me and draw me into their lives, but it just never happened. I never felt that heat, I never felt that tingle or that desire of 'oh they need to get it on'. To make a bad pun, the chemistry was a little frigid.

In addition to this the actual storyline was too simple. The best friends to lovers one is often used and can be done well, but this one was just lacking some other plot line to make it more than that. Sure there was the secondary storyline of someone doing something to the house, but it was so obvious, and silly, that it made it cheesy. Because it was such a simple storyline three quarters of the book is literately internal monologue from Syd about how she loves Kyler and could never tell him or could never expect him to change, or internal monologue from Kyler about how he is not good enough for Syd. (Of course this means given Kylers internal monologue that we also have the over overused character trait of a guy being a man ho because he doesn't think he is going to be good enough for the girl he likes, and that makes it all ok.)

Added to thin plot, is the fact that Syd and Kyler are pretty one dimensional characters. JLA has this way of drawing you into her characters and making you adore them, but nothing stood out about Syd and Kyler, nothing grabbed me. I think part of this is because I didn't feel like they were well developed. I needed more from them. I wanted to know more about them, not enough was explored with them, it was like they had not story other than their hidden love for one and other. In fact the only thing I kind of like about them was they did not have some tragic story, that they were normal. I was excited about that fact, but that was all.

This book was missing everything I love about JLA books, interesting characters, amazing chemistry, fun storylines, humour, and honestly if this was the first book I had read by her I would not considering reading another, which is a shame because usually she is good. So read any of her others, but not this.

Will I read it again? NO
Would I recommend it? No

Loved it.
By Paige Bradish
I received Frigid by J. Lynn from Around The World ARC Tours and this is my honest review.

I must say I wasn't sure I should read this because of my age but I'm pretty mature so I went for it and I ended up enjoying the book. In the book we met the main characters Sydney, and Kyler. Which brings me into the first two reasons why I loved this book. First the book went back between the POV's of Sydney, and then Kyler which I enjoyed. I absolutely loved hearing both sides and how they were both feeling at the same moment. The other thing was Kyler's name alone, it's such a unique name that I had never heard prior to this book it's officially my favorite guy name now haha :)

In the beginning, I almost thought this was going to be a book full of heartbreak because of how much of a "man-whore" Kyler seemed to be but there was not that many issues with heart break which I was extremely relieved about. I didn't think I could handle another heartbreaking book at this point. I also thought when we were first introduced to Kyler that I was going to hate his character but I ended up swooning over him throughout the book. I loved every second of every scene he was in. Especially the cutesy ones with Sydney.

The setting on the story was perfect for what went down in this book it made the romance a whole lot more romantic, and made the scary things a lot more suspenseful. Winter is not my personal favorite season but for the setting in a book its definitely my favorite season, it just makes everything so much better! Let's talk about Sydney's character, her personality did not fit with how she was described and I kind of liked that. What I mean is she was described as so tiny but yet she wasn't afraid to speak her mind towards her friends and to Kyler in a few situations. Also when she was being attacked at one part on the book she did a decent job holding her own considering her size.

I just can't help but swoon about Kyler, when it came to Sydney he was so amazing!! Their relationship was so awesome because they started off being best friends from since they were very little which is always a good thing in relationships. Anyhow the book was pretty fantastic and J. Lynn definitely made me want to read more adult books in the future, it's such a breath of fresh air to read something other than crazy YA drama which is why I gave it a 5 out of 5 stars.

Had to be a ghost writer
By Bookworm
To say this book was a huge disappointment is an understatement. I LOVED Wait for You and couldn't wait to read J Lynn's new book. I even purchased it without a sample, which I never do. This one was so bad, I have a hard time believing that she actually wrote it. First, the storyline was blah and predictable, but I could have gotten past that if the characters were as awesome as Cam. Let me just say...they were NOT. Syd drove me crazy and Ky was uninspired. The first 40% of the book was the two of them skirting around and misinterpreting their feeling, which I found ridiculous considering they had been best friends for years. At 50%, I just really didn't care to read anymore. I will probably give J Lynn another shot, but not without downloading the sample first.
