Review
★★★★★ "I've never read an indie author. Until now. So imagine my surprise when I found Isaac's The Forever Gate was not only not sludge, it was pretty darn good." - ScienceFiction-Lit.com
★★★★★ "I normally go for established authors.. this time, however, I got my hands on a short novel by indie author Isaac Hooke, called The Forever Gate, and I am very glad I did. I found myself immediately sucked in to the narrative. I actually enjoyed the story so much that I felt like giving it a bit of publicity." - BookReviewsGuru.com
★★★★★ "The Forever Gate is a fast-paced, thoughtful, and extremely well-written foray into the F/SF genre. I highly recommend this book." - WJ Davies, author of Binary Cycle
★★★★★ "Every chapter has something suspenseful happening, making the book very hard to put down, and Isaac's writing style flows like few others. To top it all off, the editing was superb. I was never bored or disappointed." - Jasper Scott, author of Dark Space
★★★★★ "I like my fiction the way I like my single-malt scotch--complex, unpredictable, with a long, lingering hint of things to come on the palate. With this in mind, the Forever Gate is easily comparable to an Aberlour 12 Year Old, Double Cask. In other words, one of the finest drams of fiction you'll ever stick your nose in." - Tammy Salyer, author of Spectras Arise Trilogy
★★★★ "The author does a good job of quickly getting you into the heads of the characters and feeling like you are right in the middle of it." - Michael Gallagher (AMAZON TOP 10 REVIEWER, HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)

Overall enjoyed Forever Gate series
By Lost in Amazon
Interesting, original concept with well developed characters and descriptive storyline. Only criticism is when the author introduced vampires. ::sigh:: Vampires. Geez, not again. Seemed kind of like the author had a great outline and then someone told him, "Vampires are trending right now, can't have a book without vampires!" So he wrote in vampires. Overdone and unnecessary, only thing that kept it from a 5 star reccomendation. Really wish he used some other entity, something as original as the rest of the concept would have been more fitting and would have made it far easier for me to reccomend to others. As it stands, the vampire inclusion is what holds me back from enthusiastically recommending to friends. Just sayin...

Don't try to compare...
By Marina Fontaine
When reading, or reviewing, a sci-fi book, it's almost automatic to try to compare it to another work that everyone knows. My advice? Don't. Even though there are clearly superficial similarities to "something that I will not mention for fear of spoilers," that's all they are- superficial, and this story is anything but. Like a well-bred tea rose, it opens up for you, one sweet petal at a time, each more intriguing than the last, until you finally arrive at the perfect center that is everything you expected it to be, and more.
The less said about the plot the better because there are many twists that new readers must discover for themselves. I will promise, however, that you will not at any point feel either cheated or disappointed by any of them. But now on to my favorite part: the characters. To put it simply, you will fall in love with them and will not want to leave them once the story is over. Hoodwink, Ari and Tanner are complete personalities, and as much as their stories and fates are interconnected, they have their own lives and dreams that make the reader experience the world from their different vantage points. That is how the story holds together in spite of all the twists and turns- the characters take you through it. If you are tired of sci-fi that is more interested in being clever and coming up with one great concept rather than telling a great story, this book is for you. It's not covering drastically new territory, but what it does, it does very well. Get the full Compendium edition and prepare to enjoy the ride!

Just ok.
By KM
It started out great, but I found myself liking it less as the books continued. It was interesting and worth reading, but not worth re-reading, which is my cutoff for recommendation. If I wouldn't re-read it, I won't recommend it to someone else. Also (SPOILER), it's awfully similar to The Matrix movie - down to the details of how the people were in the pods, the poor muscle tone when they emerge, and "jacking" back into the "matrix" (though it's not called that in the book). I can't believe no one mentioned this in the other reviews I read. In fact, it's so similar that I figured the books MUST be the inspiration for the movie, but they aren't mentioned at all (other books are, though, which makes me think this isn't an original story line - or maybe those others are rip-offs!)
